note to self: do not wait three weeks to do laundry. not only did i have to lug three weeks of clothes up and down my stairs (that's also including changes i made for kickboxing), but i had to use up a lot of my quarters. in addition, while trying to open my door while balancing the horrificly heavy basket, i accidently cut my finger on the frame of my door. the gash was right across the knuckle of my right index finger, which was coincidentally across the muscle that runs across that knuckle and works my index finger. so while i was working on my computer and clicking on my mouse, blood would ooze out everytime i clicked. gross, but weirdly fascinating too. the biologist in me was intrigued.
today, the biologist in me also thought about the Homunculus, which is a picture of what your body would actually look like if we were to refer to how much space the brain reserves for each part of the body, specifially in the sensory and motor cortex. i was also talking to lynda about her new tattoo, which is on her wrist. she said it hurt more than the others, even though it was smaller. i was telling her that's because she has more nerves in her hand, and there's only a fraction of that amount in her entire back. i sent her a picture to elaborate:

while looking at that picture, it struck me how odd it was that the guy's, *ahem*, member was so small. i thought it would be bigger. i understand why the motor cortex version is smaller, but isn't it supposed to be all about sensations?? meh.
have a merry evening. =)
