Adult Supervision

After yesterday's excursion on the slopes, I am sore EVERYWHERE. When I woke up this morning, I couldn't even sit up straight because my neck was in all kinds of pain. In addition to the misery, I am fighting an on-and-off sore throat, and whenever I coughed, my abs hurt too. But all the pain is well worth it, for yesterday while snowboarding, I CARVED! I was beginning to think I was never going to get that S going, but to my delight, I awkardly but happily curved down the mountain with my rental board. Definitely not an expert yet, but we're a few steps closer!

The Waterville mountain was verra awesome, but the condo we stayed it could not compare to the one we stayed at in Mammoth. It was nicely built, but small and without a kitchen. We had expected to have several large condos to ourselves, but it ended up being several small condos connected with a large common room. In one of the other condos was a caucasion family. The mother saw the hoard of asian college students in the common room and rudely asked is if we had any adult supervision. WTF? Do college students from 20 to 25 years old need adult supervision? I was not very impressed with her.

The funny thing though, was that my initial response to her was going to be some sort of made up excuse about not having adult supervision. While it took a couple seconds for the indignation to set in, I almost forgot myself that I was in fact, an adult. Funny how after 22 years of living and experience, I feel no closer to the feeling of "adultness". I've moved miles away from home and live on my own, stay up late and participate in over-twenty-one activities... I'm past the era of teenagedom (thank goodness), so that means I'm an adult, right? Scary. If you asked me right now, I couldn't tell you that I felt like an adult. An adult is like Mom, Dad, or one of my high school teachers. They have real jobs, real responsibilities and have to make hard decisions. My hardest decisions are what to have for dinner or which TV show to vegetate in front of. I still watch Disney movies and read comic books! In addition, I still ask my parents for advice on everyday routinely normal things, like how to get my whites white or how to fix a broken lock. I'm an adult?

As unnerving as this feeling is, I actually hope I never feel like an adult. I hope that I perpetually have the spirit of a kid and the hopes of dreamer, the naivete of an adolescent and the idealism of a youngster (I could definitely do without the acne though). I hope I will always need to learn something new and I hope there will always be an "adult" around to supervise me... Hmm... make that ADVISE me. "Supervise" sounds so childish. ;)

Wheel of morality, turn turn turn, tell us the lesson that we must learn.

Ok, valuable life lesson of the day. Do not exercise after just having a full cup of coffee. Not good for the indigestion. On that note, one should not exercise at all if one is not feeling well. Over the weekend I had a brief sore throat, but this morning I woke up mildly nauseated. I thought it would pass after lunch, and around mid-afternoon, I was feeling fine, so I trotted over to my kickboxing class only to start blacking out half way through the session. I took that as a sign so I left early, but all the way home I felt like throwing up. I couldn't take a cab because I can't really afford it, and I didn't take the T since it's two stops away, and in the time it takes for me to wait for the T, I would have been home already.

After resting a bit, I feel much better now. I think I want to attribute my pains to a suspicious cheesecake that I had for dinner last night. Anyways, if I feel up to it, I may knock out a few crunches later. The only good part about today was that physics lab was cancelled due to a malfuctioning spark timer. (YAY!)

I had wanted to go see The Fight at the Middle East Upstairs tonight, but now I do not feel like braving the cold weather in addition to my apparent weakened state. Sadness, they sound really cool too. I think I'll just kick back and enjoy some good ol' TV (wonderful friend) and soup tonight, and if I'm good, some studyin' too. Later darlings. =)

tw33der7: i guess b4 u were "cute" now ur "hot"

post drunken debauchery... well, there wasn't actually that much debaucher ;)There's an ongoing debate with girls, about how most would prefer being "sexy" and "hot", as opposed to just cute. Cute is like your little sister or niece, FAO Schwartz teddy bear for that matter. For girls, calling them cute is the equivalent of a girl telling a guy that she just considers him a friend, or worse yet, an "older brother." Anyhoo, I've had this conversation multiple times with multiple people, of both genders. Usually, I come up with the conclusion that if I am cute, so be it. It is who I am and I must simply embrace it--and for the most part, I do. Obviously, being cute ain't half bad. Many people in the world strive to just be "cute," right? So to complain about it would mean that someone should just slap me in the face. Worry not, for I usually do the slapping myself. It's the same as complaining that I have sucky life, when in reality, I have a GREAT life. (And actually, I rarely, if ever, complain about my life. My life is a grand one and I love it and appreciate it with every breath. ^_^)

So why the ongoing discussion on hot vs cute? It pervades nearly ever female's identity. Even guys do not agonze over it to the detail that ladies do. Many guys (I think) are very pleased to know that they are cute. I label many a dude cute without worry to their ego or identity, and they seem to be satisfied with the assertation. And yet, the last time a guy called me cute, I think I wanted to smash his face in. (Awww, she's so cute... that cute little asian chick--WTF, I feel like a four year old!!)

So the point of this diatribe wasn't actually to knock on the people who have defined me as cute. If anything, I do appreciate the compliment. A few of the guys once told me that being cute was fortunate, for there was nowhere but up for me to go. When a girl is hot, that's all that she is, whereas a cute girl can be both cute and hot, as well, as smart, witty... etc., etc.

ANWAYS, the actual point of this late night blog was to pay tribute to good friends. Even when I'm feeling extraordinarily down and blue, they have the uncanny ability to pick me up and make me smile and laugh, and without even knowing it. Thank goodness for those who can see you as you can rarely see yourself, who can shine a mirror on you that you refuse to face. Whether plain or gorgeous, reject or fabulous, cute or sexy, to view the image of ourselves that our friends had of us would be to view greatness.

Good times all, peace & joy always. =)

Saturday, pre-drunken debauchery

Was very domesticated today... did laundry, changed bed sheets, tossed old magazines into recycling bin, even organized the DVDs and the living room. It's once again friggin' cold in Boston, but I am still adamant on wearing a skirt tonight. Let's see how long it takes for my legs to fall off. =)

Yesterday I saw "Hitch" with Joey, which was better than I thought it would be. I actually liked it a lot and the movie may make the DVD collection. There were many truthful things said in the movie, as well as many cliches and fantastical things. Overall, it was enjoyable. You could definitely see glimplses of the Fresh Prince in the now mature Will Smith. Dinner afterwards at Apollo was more memorable this time around since I wasn't drunk and asleep at the table.

Anyone know a song about Saturdays? This will have to do for now. I plan to be merry and drunk tonight; I wish nothing but the same for you. ;)
It's something unpredictable
But in end there's right
I hope you have the time of your life.

I'm in Love...

...with Fridays.
I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love

Saturday, wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesistates

I don't care of Monday's black
Tuesday, Wednesday heart attack
Thursday never looking back
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can hold your head
Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed
Oh Thursday watch the walls instead
It's Friday, I'm in love

Saturday, wait
Sunday always comes too late
But Friday never hesistates

Dressed up tothe eyes
It's a wonderful suprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
Throwing out your frown
And just smiling at the sound
And as sleek as a shriek
Spinning round and round
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday
I'm in love

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday, I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love

Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
--Cure, "Friday, I'm in Love"

I don't know the exact meaning or context behind this song, but I take it to mean: YAY! It's Friday! Time to par-tay!! The work week is over and now 'tis time to chillax and have some fun. Especially this glorious three-day weekend. =)

I got quite a good stash of candy for Vday from my girlfriends, which was good because I enjoy candy, but was also bad because I enjoy candy too much and I can just feel my teeth rotting away. I just scarfed down a bag of skittles. Methinks I'll go brush my teeth now. =)

Ambiguous Endings

I just finished Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. It was muy excellent, and in particular, those of the science field (a la moi and Kresser ^_-) would really appreciate it. The book is along the vein of 1984, and discusses the impact of bioengineering in the future. A totally good read with interesting characters and truthful observations about the fate of the world, as well as with parts that definitely made *GASP*! My only beef with the book was the ambigous ending. Hate hate HATE those things. Sometimes I tolerate them because they do serve to end the current story being told adequately and sufficiently, but in this case, the "no-ending" ending only served to piss me off. Much like it did when Angel ended very uberly-ambiguous too. (Still verra angry about that BTW.)

Got a facial today, then spent the day at Starbucks reading. Afterwards, perused Virgin and Sephora. Sephora is turning into a drug for me, I've bought something there every week for the past month! Overall, a verra nice and relaxing day. See, I'm in my relaxing robe. ;)

Precious Cell Phone

For some unexplicable reason, I woke up in an uber-good mood this morning. There wasn't really any concrete reason for it, unless you count a good hairday. So I popped on my mini-iPOD, trotted to school to the tune of "Friday, I'm in Love" and prepared myself for another long Wednesday. Everything was going fairly well until I realized halfway through OChem that I was missing my phone!! I started spazzing out, and immediately after class, went to the last place I remembered looking at it. As many of you know, my cell phone is verra important to me because 1) I don't have a land line so it's my only means of communication with the outside world, and 2) the freaking phone cost as much as my Chanel bag.

So anyways, my friend told me to chill and check my bag again, which I did again for the umpteenth time to humor her, and lo and behold, there it was in the laptop compartment. Yes, stupid-much? =)

Well, 'twas a good ending. I'm going to have to keep a better eye on the damn sucker. I could imagine Mom trying to call me, and then freak out after I don't pick up because I didn't have the phone anymore.

Did you know that it's illegal in Massachusetts for a couple to kiss in front of a church?

Tennis, I adore thee

I had my hair colored again yesterday, so I took a picture to show you guys... and then I ended up getting carried away with my vain self and took several extras. Just in case you forgot what I looked like:

The above were taken with my digicam after I realized that the ones taken with my computer camera (shown below) where not suitable enough. Still, I thought that they warranted posting... because I'm that self-absorbed. (Hey, I blog daily, doesn't that already tell you how self-absorbed I am?)

Do I look Taiwanese in those pics or what?

Last year, for my protest of V-Day, I wore my red shirt which said "Love is... nothing but trouble" and had the cute little Love Is boy with devil horns. This year, my anti-love shirt was the following, which BTW, also illustrates one of the reasons why I appreciate tennis so--for its philosphy. ;)

Over the weekend, I also hung out with Miss Quang at Harvard. She took me to a Tet party that her HVA was throwing. Lots of free & DELICIOUS vietnamese food. YUM. They had some cheesy party games as well, such as a spoof on The Apprentice and Who Wants to be a Millionaire. My pals volunteered me (against my will) for Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I was forced to answer a question about Vietnam (even though I had chosen the other choice, which was a question about the USA. PS, the girl asked if I was Vietnamese or American. What kind of questions is that? I can only be one or the other? ANYWAY) and I guessed--that's right, guessed, had no clue what the answer was--and my prize was a chocolate covered fortune cookie and a liquer filled chocolate candy. My fortune inside the cookie was the following:

Don't be afraid to tell someone you care.

Well, alright. Dear friends & strangers, any and all readers who happen to happen upon this *cough*humble blog, I care. Thanks for showing interest in my daily events and rumblings... basically, thanks for caring about me too. Peace, joy and happiness be with you always. ;)

People

oh yeah, in case anyone is interested in seeing who some of my drinking buddies are:

Kim (Tran), Janice & Moi at Hong Kong tonight

Charles, Dan Le, Dan Park & Moi after getting wasted at the Pour House a couple weeks ago

making friends is fun. =)

Deep Thoughts

Hmm... I don't really have any. =) I guess I'm just not that deep. Shallow as a stream. Materialistic as Paris Hilton. Dumb as a... Paris Hilton...

Just got back from a night on the town. 'Twas an interesting eveing. I always thought that I was the slut of the group, but one of my girlfriends proved me wrong and surpassed me. Good times. I had about four drinks and did NOT yak and I anticipate that I shall not be having a monstrous headache tomorrow, as I did last week. YAY! Must've been a mysterious red drink fluke. Who knows... I took extra care to take it easy tonight, especially because I knew I had an early hair appointment tomorrow. Yes, it's important to girls for them to be on time for their hair. ;)

I had an short, but interesting, coversation with one of the girls about society and convention. She wished to get a job, and when I asked why, she said it was because society wished her so. I told her to screw society, but she responded smartly by saying that to win, we had to play the game. I say, I should play by my own rules... but then what are my rules? I think even I have forgotton. These last few weeks (months?) have very much blurred everything I have considered to be my rules, so much so that I do not even know what they are anymore. It had always been my number one priority to make myself happy, to exist by my philosophies, to live up to my expectations... and yet, I think those 'rules' which have done so well for me in the past few years are no longer satisfactory. Rules have to change, right? Philosophies must grow, people must evolve. Have I evolved? Or have I forced myself to stand still because of my stubborness and adamant adherence to what I think is right?

I used to pride myself on my love of fun, my carefree personality and eternal cynically optimistic view of life. So what's change? Why the sudden blue and existential question of happiness and life?

Heh. Must be the alcohol. Good to be blissfully drunk again, and not yaking in a bowl. ;)

Laundry

note to self: do not wait three weeks to do laundry. not only did i have to lug three weeks of clothes up and down my stairs (that's also including changes i made for kickboxing), but i had to use up a lot of my quarters. in addition, while trying to open my door while balancing the horrificly heavy basket, i accidently cut my finger on the frame of my door. the gash was right across the knuckle of my right index finger, which was coincidentally across the muscle that runs across that knuckle and works my index finger. so while i was working on my computer and clicking on my mouse, blood would ooze out everytime i clicked. gross, but weirdly fascinating too. the biologist in me was intrigued.

today, the biologist in me also thought about the Homunculus, which is a picture of what your body would actually look like if we were to refer to how much space the brain reserves for each part of the body, specifially in the sensory and motor cortex. i was also talking to lynda about her new tattoo, which is on her wrist. she said it hurt more than the others, even though it was smaller. i was telling her that's because she has more nerves in her hand, and there's only a fraction of that amount in her entire back. i sent her a picture to elaborate:

while looking at that picture, it struck me how odd it was that the guy's, *ahem*, member was so small. i thought it would be bigger. i understand why the motor cortex version is smaller, but isn't it supposed to be all about sensations?? meh.

have a merry evening. =)

change of plans

well, due to unforseen professoral dictatorships, i had to change my flight plans.

Saturday, March 05, 2004
Depart Logan Airport 4:40pm
Arrive Long Beach Airport 8:15pm

in other news, may visit SF twice this semester, as well as chicago. =)

superbowl

watched the superbowl, rooted against the pats (as i did last year) and watched the pats win (again, as i did last year). harvard square is verra pretty in the snow, but boo-urns on the slush and mud. the melee wasn't as interesting as the red sox win, but then again, that was a bigger deal. another weekend has gone and past where i have been overly-unproductive... unless you count productivity as relaxing a lot and having drinks.

oh yeah, spent the better part of saturday recovering through the most horrendous hangover of my life after spending most of friday night yaking... and all due to four drinks!! *shrugg* i blame it on the mysterious red drink janice made me drink. ;)

all in all, a verra good weekend. will be in sunny cali in under four weeks, the goddamn sun better be shining, and not hiding behind rain clouds. peace and joy be with you all. =)

Mom would almost be proud

Last week, I had at least a banana everyday for breakfast, and the week before that, I started snacking on dried cranberries, as opposed to chips all the live long day. This week, I've also invested in grapes. Only bad thing was, I actually bought some Caramelo and Rolos because of a recent Hershey's kiss comercial I saw. They have a new type of Kiss which is filled with caramel. It sounded so uber-good, I decided to browse the candy isle, an actually rare activity, but my Stop n Shop hasn't stocked it yet, so I settled for old caramel favorites, Caramelo and Rolos. Mmmm... though I'm hardly a sweet tooth (much prefer high fat, butter and salt in-take), chocolate makes me happy any day of the week. Speaking of, it might be a good time to take a trip to Godiva and purchase some honey roasted almond truffles. Godiva, how I miss thy part-time job and all the free freaking fabulous chocolate. =) Considering the pounds of korean bbq I gorge at home in California, my mommy would at least be pleased to know that whilst leaving out here, I maintain a relatively healthy diet--cough--unless of course you count the high consumption of caffeine, red bull and liquor. ;)

The Counterproductiveness of Energy Drinks

i have an exam tomorrow. seeing as how i have studied very little for it in the days preceeding it, i figured i'd do a crash course tonight after my very neccesary tv programs. i tried a different energy drink (foregoing regular coffee or good ol' friend red bull) in hopes of it keeping me awake long enough to get through the particulars. while the drink has worked verra well at keeping me awake and alert (it's freaking 3:15 am right now), my procrastination skills have somehow still taken over and i studied very little for my test. i watched a lot of late night tv (love the conan and leno) and surfed a lot of the internet. cursed information superhighway! even when you think you've finished, there's still more crap that you can go a-googleing for.

for the most part, i am not over-stressed or anxious about the thing. i took the practice test to figure out what i needed to study, and as it turns out, not very much. hopefully, i'm not being over-confident in my skills and then get my ass busted tomorrow during the test. seeing as how late it is, i don't anticipate on attending my 10am class tomorrow. this semester is turning out to be somewhat of a snoozefest, which could be a good or bad thing. luckily for me, i am finding many things to amuse myself. =)
